Grand Knight's Message

Dear Brother Knights:

As the year 2013 comes to an end, we probably all reflect on the year just past. My own family has sad and happy times, death of a loving sister-in-law.

Also happy times with family & friends, many of which I am happy to say, in my short time in the Vernon area are members of the Knights of Columbus.

The last few months we have had a successful Oktoberfest, Children’s All Saints Party, helped deliver Meals on Wheels, sold Charity Appeal tickets, had a special Mass for our deceased members. Last Sunday and this coming Sunday we are collecting donations after Mass at O.L.O.V. which the Council will match, up to $1,000.00. In January we plan a fun bowling day. Please also remember a very Special date next year, Friday May 2, Ladies Appreciation Night.

I would like to wish all our Council Members and their families a Very Merry & Blessed Christmas and a Happy New year.

The Funny Bone

A little boy was waiting for his mother to come out of the grocery store. As he waited, he was approached by a man who asked, "Son, can you tell me where the Post Office is?"

The little boy replied, "Sure! Just go straight down this street a coupla blocks and turn to your right."

The man thanked the boy kindly and said, "I'm the new pastor in town.

I'd like for you to come to church on Sunday...I'll show you how to get to Heaven."

The little boy replied with a chuckle. "You've got to be kidding, right? You don't even know the way to the Post Office!”

PECANS IN THE CEMETERY

On the outskirts of a small town, there was a big, old pecan tree just inside the cemetery fence. One day, two boys filled up a bucketful of nuts and sat down by the tree, out of sight, and began dividing the nuts.

'One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me,' said one boy. Several dropped and rolled down toward the fence.

Then another boy rode along the road on his bicycle. As he passed, he thought he heard voices from inside the cemetery. He slowed down to investigate. Sure enough, he heard, 'One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me...'

He just knew what it was. He jumped back on his bike and rode off. Just around the bend he met an old man with a cane, hobbling along.

'Come here quick,' said the boy, 'you won't believe what I heard! Satan and the Lord are down at the cemetery dividing up the souls!'

The man said, 'Beat it kid, can't you see it's hard for me to walk.' When the boy insisted though, the man hobbled slowly to the cemetery.

Standing by the fence they heard, 'One for you, one for me, one for you, one for me.'

The old man whispered, 'Boy, you've been tellin' me the truth. Let's see if we can see the Lord...

Shaking with fear, they peered through the fence, yet were still unable to see anything. The old man and the boy gripped the wrought iron bars of the fence tighter and tighter as they tried to get a glimpse of the Lord.

At last they heard, 'One for you, one for me. That's all. Now let's go get those nuts by the fence and we'll be done....

They say the old man had the lead for a good half-mile before the kid on the bike passed him!
